Join us for the 2025 探花社区 鈥淲rite to Explore鈥 Conference

April 11-12, 2025

Everyone鈥檚 invited to this year鈥檚 FREE conference, including local community members and faculty and students from all fields of study!

This year鈥檚 conference (featuring in-person and live streamed events) will cover different ways for thinking about story and story sharing, with a focus on social and environmental justice. Some questions our offerings will pose include:

  • What is the value of writing in our society today?
  • How can we use writing as a tool to promote social justice and change?
  • How do storytelling skills help people make a difference?
  • How can we use story sharing to make connections to the issues we face today?

Featured events include:

A presentation by , a graphic novelist acclaimed for being the writer and creator of the bestselling superhero series La Borinque帽a, as well as the creative director of Somos Arte, a production and creative services studio. He is the recipient of Eisner's Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic efforts via the benefit anthology Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico.

, a senior reporter/editor covering climate, energy, and environment as part of the WHYY News Climate Desk, who has won multiple awards for her coverage of environmental issues and gun violence, will be in conversation with . Harris is a faculty member at 探花社区 and a former book editor and environmental columnist with the Los Angeles Times Syndicate, who authored the acclaimed book on natural burial, Grave Matters

A discussion and a workshop with , an Adjunct Professor at 探花社区, former professor of drama at NYU, and the author of the book See Me: Prison Theater Workshops and Love, a collection of intimate dialogues about collective experiences in the context of prison theater workshops.

A return performance by , a group of poets who offer poetry readings in which audiences and poets actively interact, poem by poem, to decide the direction of the performance from beginning to end, co-creating a reading that is never the same twice.
