̽ College announces Janine Jagger ’72 will address graduates at the 2018 commencement ceremony

BETHLEHEM, PA., February 19, 2018: Today, ̽ College announced Dr. Janine Jagger, class of 1972, will serve as commencement speaker at the college’s 276th commencement ceremony on May 12, 2018 on the  in Bethlehem, Pa.  

Jagger is a MacArthur Fellow and a  at the University of Virginia. As a young research epidemiologist, Dr. Jagger led efforts to mitigate the spread of bloodborne diseases among healthcare professionals by championing improved safety-engineered devices that incorporated needle-shielding or needle-retracting features. Her innovation and insight resulted in five U.S. patents throughout her career and led her to stand next to President Bill Clinton as he signed the U.S. Needlestick and Safety Act of 2000 into law.

“We are very honored to have Janine Jagger, a distinguished ̽ alumna with so many notable professional achievements to her credit, address our graduates in May,” said Bryon L. Grigsby, ‘90, president of ̽ College. “Janine provides an excellent example of the ingenuity and perseverance that our students would do well to emulate in their careers, no matter which professional path they follow.”

The 2018 ̽ College commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. on the Main Street campus of ̽ College in Bethlehem, Pa. Approximately 450 undergraduate, 50 graduate, and 25 seminary students will receive their degrees at this year’s ceremony.
